Hanging On and Rising Up: Renewing, Re-Envisioning, and Rebuilding the Cross from the "Marginalized": 235 (Princeton Theological Monograph) - Tapa dura

Sinopsis

Hanging On and Rising Up invites readers to enter into key aspects of Christology, making use of women’s perspectives from the Andean Peruvian contexts by using novels by Clorinda Matto de Turner and Jose Maria Arguedas. Studying the social, racial, and cultural experiences in challenging contexts, the book confirms the nearness of God in Jesus Christ, who makes hope possible as a sign of resurrection and encourages persons to celebrate it daily.""The years Patricia Cuyatti spent accompanying those who live on the underside of Latin America’s economic ’structural reforms’ open a window onto an emerging relational understanding of Christology. Her solid research and well-trained eye draw from indigenous experience, Latin American literature, and the sufferings of Christ to proclaim a Savior that is recognizable and transformative to the region’s marginalized peoples.""--Hunter Farrell, Director, World Mission Initiative, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary""In this luminous Christological study, Peruvian feminist Patricia Cuyatti plumbs the depths of conquest and brings to life the strength of communities’ resistance. Crucifixion does not negate hope, she argues, but rather evokes the capacity to celebrate resurrection. I highly recommend this book, for the ways it opens up Latin American women’s lives as sacred texts. Jesus’ presence through the poor continues as living story.""--Barbara R. Rossing, Professor of New Testament; Environmental Ministry coordinator""Patricia Cuyatti Chavez’s book, a recent volume in the Princeton Theological Monograph Series, is a well-informed effort to provide a panoramic historical view of a Christological perspective characteristic of her experience in the Peruvian Evangelical Lutheran Church (ILEP) . . . The book is surely an important contribution for those interested in the topic. It may become an important source for the formation of church leaders, as well as for those pursuing advanced studies in the area of Latin American religious experience.""--Jose David Rodriguez, Augustana Chair of Global Mission and World Christianity, Professor of Systematic Theology, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago PATRICIA CUYATTI CHAVEZ is a Pastor from the Lutheran Church of Peru and researcher in Systematic Theology. She is currently working as Area Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean in the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) in Geneva, Switzerland.
