Sinopsis

Because analysis is a higher-level critical thinking skill, students have a difficult time understanding the concept, especially if their reading comprehension is at a lower level. Most often, students write summaries of what they read, rather than explaining how a text is effective through the author’s use of rhetorical strategies. This Guide provides exemplars, questions, and strategies for teaching analysis. This book is useful for any high school English class (especially AP English), as well as college English courses. The author was inspired by selections that appear in the Collections Textbook Series, Grade Nine (HMH Publishing). Mr. Mulhern does not work for HMH, and his writing this Guide is in no way an endorsement by that company.
