Excerpt from Studies on the Structure and Development of Vertebrates
The triumph of the doctrine of Evolution has owed much in the past to the study of the structure and development of the Vertebrates, and the correct interpretation of their morphology still plays an important part in the elucidation of the evolutionary process. No other group of animals presents us with so complete a record of the divergent phylo genetic lines along which they have evolved. Although this book is written mainly from the morphological point of view, function has not been lost sight of. For it must not be forgotten that structure and function go hand in hand and evolve parz' passu.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intriguing world of vertebrates, a diverse group of animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. The author meticulously examines their anatomy, focusing primarily on the structure and development of their vertebral columns, ribs, and sternums, while also delving into the evolution of these vital skeletal components. The narrative masterfully weaves together these complex topics, providing a comprehensive understanding of the form and function of these anatomical features. By tracing the development of these structures throughout the vertebrate lineage, the book sheds light on the remarkable diversity and adaptation that have shaped the animal kingdom. The author's exploration of the relationship between the vertebral column and the nervous system, as well as the interplay between muscle and skeletal structures, offers valuable insights into the complexities of vertebrate evolution. This fascinating account will appeal to students, researchers, and anyone with a keen interest in comparative anatomy and evolutionary biology.
