Excerpt from Cases Illustrating General Principles of the Law of Contract
We might easily have included more cases had we not thought it desirable to print at least one judgement Without any omissions from every case but we believe that much of the benefit that a student may derive from reading the reports at first hand depends on his learning to extract for himself, as he will later have to do in practice, the ratio decidendi, instead of having this done for him by omissions of the less material parts of a judgement, or even by headnotes. This conviction also explains the plan which we have adopted in the note prefixed to each case, which is intended, not as an analysis, but rather as an indication of the general subject-matter of the case which it precedes.
