His remains, found on the battlefield at that time, were positively identified. The Sons of the American Revolution list Thomas McClung as a Patriot who died in 1774. His death certificate states that he died on October10, 1774 and gives his burial place as the Point Pleasant Battlefield in Mason County, WV. Many of the soldiers who fought with Thomas McClung during the Battle of Point Pleasant wrote accounts of his death on the battlefield, where the colonial militia of America fought and defeated the Native American forces led by the Shawnee Chief Cornstalk. An Appendix at the back of the book contains numerous authenticated documents that provide conclusive evidence of the life and death of Thomas McClung (1728-1774).
