The rise, fall and demise of two African American Inner-City stick-up men that rose above ghetto poverty in the cruel and depleted streets of New Jersey by using extreme and extraordinary means to do so. Only to find out that what's done in the dark always comes to light. Entitled In and Out, the manuscript is written entirely around the lives of two best friends who both chose the occupation of robbery as a career at a young age, with one of them having three objectives that he vowed to live by and that is to get rich, stay alive and free while doing it by any means without meeting the fate of death or a hundred years in prison as so many before him has. My book is a fictional account replete with emotional and stingingly blunt dialogue. This is not a children's book. The language and scenes are contemporary and often raw and unrelenting. The book is, however, a timely expose`on the lives of our past, present and future young black men growing up in broken homes of the inner cities in every State choosing the wrong paths, all looking for the same thing in life, a quick come up.

The manuscript is divided into five parts: The fateful meeting between two young men while cutting school as teenagers, neither knowing what the future would hold for them, their choice of occupation as adults that leaves the residents of the State of New Jersey in fear and the authorities scratching their heads in confusion. The consequences that follows for both friends after one breaks the rules of the game, the coming of what they had tried to avoid all their lives, leaving one friend with unbearable hurt and pain along with unanswered questions and his lone friend who has lost his best friend and the love of his life all in a two day span, trying to find a way to keep on keeping only to find that life isn't that easy.

Lester S. Alford is a 46-year-old native of New Jersey, he was born in Elizabeth New Jersey and raised between the counties of Essex and Union. He has spent the last 27 years in New Jersey's notorious maximum Trenton State Prison, 15 of those years were spent in solitary confinement where he became an author of several books.
