“No more copying meaningless statements from the text!”The Analytical Notes process by Dr. Robert Pauker is a simple technique that helps students organize and analyze ideas resulting in increased student comprehension and accelerated learning. How it Works The Analytical Notes process gives students a step-by-step approach that enables them to focus on important ideas and support these ideas with key information. The Analytical Notes format and graphic organizer provide students a visual way to analyze the content. Students learn to determine which details and ideas are significant. As a result, students use critical thinking skills to heighten their comprehension. Why it WorksThe Analytical Notes process teaches students to focus on the information that merits analysis, as opposed to merely copying details from a text or a presentation. Students become proficient at asking key thinking questions about the content. This part of the process increases both short and long-term understanding.Starting Point for Writing and SpeakingThe Analytical Note process is an excellent tool to help students organize their thoughts before they begin writing or preparing a speech. Dr. Pauker includes examples of how students can create paragraphs and speeches right from content in their Analytical Notes. Works for All Curriculum AreasDr. Pauker’s strategy can be integrated into all curricular areas including math, science, guidance, English, social studies and even physical education. Dr. Pauker presents examples in each area with actual teacher dialogue.
