Besides the story itself, this standalone edition includes an introduction with a biography of the author, a background historical essay, and translator's notes along with a vintage illustration from the original 1870 publication.Let Vilhelm Bergsøe whisk you away on an aerial jaunt like no other — but there's no telling where you'll come down!

Vilhelm Bergsøe (1835 - 1911), was a Danish author and zoologist. In 1862, he went to Messina in Italy to study the fauna of the Mediterranean. There, he made observations of swordfish parasites and after his return to Denmark published a monograph about them. As a result of continuous use of a microscope, he contracted a serious eye infection and went temporarily blind, and was forced to give up his career as a naturalist. Bergsøe then devoted himself to writing both fiction and non-fiction, mostly by means of dictation. He wrote mainly historical and mystery fiction, and "Flying Fish 'Prometheus'" was his only venture into Jules Verne territory.
