Written in January 2013 for Atlanta Opera's 24-Hour Opera Project by Composer, Evan Mack and Librettist, Wm. Samuel Bradford.The work was conceived, written, and composed in 12-hours,followed by 12 hours of rehearsal and a performance for a live audience, in person and streaming online. Each composer and librettist were paired randomly assigned a stage prop, and wrote on the theme "Convincing Confession." Beach and Moan won audience favorite. Synopsis: A women wants to spend a relaxing day at the beach. Two men see her and try to woo her under false pretense. Hilarity ensues. Both get rejected and vow to be better people and better towards one another. Their truce is fleeting and they fight. The battle spills into the ocean, they cry for help, and the women has to choose which one to save. This opera is about the extent to which all love is selfish love, and how we lie to one another and ourselves to achieve it.

Evan Mack is the composer and librettist of Angel of the Amazon which premiered in May 2011 by Encompass New Opera Theatre at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City and has been released worldwide by Albany Records. His opera, Beach and Moan, is the 2013 winner of Atlanta Opera's 24-hour Opera Project. His second opera, The Secret of Luca, has been workshopped across the country and was premiered by Fresno State Opera Theatre in 2014. He is published with Hal Leonard and Alfred Music. Mack’s latest opera is an adaptation of the best- selling novel Roscoe, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Kennedy. Evan was a 2014 composing fellow at the John Duffy Composers Institute and a resident artist at Yaddo. As an acclaimed pianist, he has toured all over the United States, Barcelona, and South Africa as a champion of American Piano Music. Evan holds a B.Mus from Vanderbilt University and a M.M and DMA in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College- Conservatory of Music.
