* Independent Publisher Book Award Winner * A fully illustrated summary of the world's bestselling Bhagavad-gita. There have been literally hundreds of translations of the Bhagavad-gita published in English alone, which is evidence that the voices from ancient India still speak to us in modern times. Bhagavad-gita: A Photographic Essay is an artistic presentation of the key philosophical ideas of the Bhagavad-gita's eighteen chapters. The author, with the aid of 124 powerful photographic illustrations, eloquently presents the Gita's transcendent vision. The Gita itself boldly declares, "In this world there is nothing so sublime and pure as transcendental knowledge." And in Bhagavad-gita: A Photographic Essay, the resonance and potency of the original Sanskrit verses remain intact as they call upon each of us to apply their wisdom in our everyday lives. "The ancient, yet universally relevant message of the Gita is extended to us in the modern world through Visakha's clearly articulated understanding along with her powerful photographic expression of its message." -- Graham M. Schweig, Ph.D., Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley "In this publication, we have an extraordinary opportunity to comprehend the Gita as it has been historically understood within its own sacred tradition." -- Howard J. Resnick, Ph.D., Harvard University "By blending an easy-to-read and highly accessible synopsis of the text with relevant and usefully placed photographs, Visakha has highlighted the essential philosophical points and made them relevant to the modern context." -- Edwin Bryant, Ph.D., Rutgers University
Since her first trip to India in 1971 (when she was 21), Visakha's life has never been the same. She's tried to explain what happened to her -- and what's continuing to happen -- in numerous magazine articles as well as four books, most recently a memoir, Five Years, Eleven Months and a lifetime of unexpected love. Besides writing articles and books, Visakha also assists her husband, John Griesser, in making documentary films. The couple will soon be releasing a 90-minute biopic, Hare Krishna, the Mantra, the Movement, and the Swami who started it all -- coming to a theater near you! They have two beautiful daughters and are based in both British Columbia and Florida, but mostly Florida.
