In 1998, the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention established the National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP). This program began through the efforts of dedicated public health professionals who recognized that a more collaborative approach would be necessary to reduce the burden of cancer in the United States. They believed that coordination among those involved in the fight against cancer would have tremendous impact on prevention, early detection, treatment, quality of care, and survival.
