Many factors come together to create a fluent reader: prosody, automaticity, and intonation are but a few of the fluency areas covered by Dr. Marta Whittington in Motivating Adolescent Readers Using Fluency and Prosody instruction. Current research strongly links fluent reading to increased reading comprehension. Dr. Whittington has provided in this short book a great resource for teachers in giving information about why fluency and prosody are important for adolescent instruction, as well as providing meaningful activities, strategies and resources for further development. Motivating Adolescent Readers Using Fluency and Prosody Instruction is the second in a series of Words of Wisdom books that will target middle school instruction.
