A legend in the game of lacrosse and one of the most winning coaches, (375 total wins) Carl Runk was Towson University’s lacrosse coach for 31 years. Towson University began it’s football program in 1969 with Runk as their first coach. He remained in this position for the next four years of the program. Earlier in his career, Runk successfully coached the University of Arizona lacrosse program where he posted a 36 – 6 record including an undefeated 11 – 0 season, and a conference championship. During his tenure at Towson University he had won the NCAA D2 Lacrosse National Championship. Runk’s Towson team was also the NCAA D1 Lacrosse Finalists in ’91. He had won numerous conference championships (8) at Towson. In the twilight of his coaching career, he coached for a short time at Baltimore County’s Hereford High School, near his home, winning two state championships amassing a total of 85 wins. A regional Lacrosse Hall of Fame member, along with being selected to the Maryland Hall of Fame, Carl Runk has authored two books and a lacrosse coaching software program designed to accommodate coaches.
