Dr. Julius “Boo” Hornstein has spent his entire life in the historic area of Savannah and as a child regularly played among the wisteria and azaleas of Forsyth Park where Jumbo Barrett hit his prodigious home run. He has immersed himself in the legends and colorful characters of one of America’s classic cities. A practicing psychotherapist, he is also retired Assistant Professor Emeritus of Social Sciences at Saint Leo University, where he continues to teach part-time. His book, Sites and Sounds of Savannah Jazz reflects some eighty years of Savannah’s colorful jazz history. Charlie Swerdlow is currently a student of Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He is not only a lifelong artist, but also a runner, singer, writer, actor, dancer, guitarist, bookworm, and French speaker. Other interests include philosophy, art history, poetry, record era music, and outdoor exploration. Born and raised near Portland, Maine, he gravitated to art at a young age, later developing a talent and passion. In addition to illustration, Swerdlow also works in advertising and graphic design.
