DOV PERETZ ELKINS Dov Peretz Elkins was born in Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Gratz College for Hebrew Teachers, received his BA in literature from Temple University, and his M.H.L. and rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary. He received his doctorate in counseling and humanistic education in 1976 at Colgate Rochester Divinity School. In 1989 he was given an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree for distinguished rabbinic service by his alma mater, the Jewish Theological Seminary. After serving in several congregations, in 1992 he became Senior Rabbi at The Jewish Center, Princeton, NJ. He completed 13 years of service in Princeton at his retirement in July, 2005, and is now Rabbi Emeritus. Dr. Elkins is a nationally known lecturer, educator, workshop leader, author, and book critic, he has written widely for the Jewish and general press, including such journals as Reader's Digest, New Woman, The Christian Century, Judaism, Hadassah Magazine, Religious Education, Conservative Judaism, The Reconstructionist, and many others. Dr. Elkins has spoken on radio and television programs, and has been interviewed in cities all over the world for national and international media. He is a popular speaker on the Jewish circuit. Rabbi Elkins is a recipient of the National Jewish Book Award, and is the author of over thirty-five books. His Chicken Soup For The Jewish Soul, co-edited with Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen (Health Communications, September, 2001) was on the NY Times best-seller list. Among Rabbi Elkins' other books (all published by Jewish Lights Publishing) are Rosh Hashanah Readings: Inspiration, Information and Contemplation, Yom Kippur Readings, and The Wisdom of Judaism: An Introduction to the Values of the Talmud. His most recent book is Jewish Stories from Heaven and Earth: Inspiring Tales to Nourish the Heart and Soul.
