Sinopsis

Hook line : Letters From the Deep collects Wilde’s supplementary prison letters, offering a window into literature, friendship, and the artist’s life behind bars.

The text frames a portrait of Wilde as he contemplates his work, his circumstances, and the role of art in a life under confinement. It situates his letters within a broader conversation about literature, loyalty, and creative identity while preserving the intimate voice of a writer facing difficult truths.

  • Wilde’s candid thoughts on reading, writing, and the sustaining power of literature in prison
  • Practical notes on his plans, including appointing a literary executor and protecting his works
  • References to other writers and literary culture, highlighting the exchange of ideas across eras
  • An intimate look at emotion, resilience, and the daily life of a jailed artist
Ideal for readers of Oscar Wilde, literary correspondence, and 19th‑century prison writing.

Excerpt from Four Letters Which Were Not Included in the English: Edition of De Profundis

I have never had the chance of thank ing you for the books. They were most welcome. Not being allowed the maga zines was a blow, but Meredith's novel charmed me. What a sane artist in temper! He is quite right in his asser tion of sanity as the essential in romance.

Reseña del editor

January 6th, 1896. My dear Robbie, Consider now, my dear Robbie, my proposal. I think my wife, who in money matters is most honourable and high-minded, will refund the 75 paid for my share. I have no doubt she will. But I think it should be offered from me, and that I should not accept anything in the way of income from her ;I can accept what is given in love and affection to me, but I could not accept what is doled out grudgingly or with conditions. I would sooner let my wife be quite free. She may marry again.
