Chapter One

He had an eye patch on his eye, And wore a goofy grin. He looked forward to his Voyage, And when it would begin.

His name was Pirate Shuteye, Or so I was told . He only had one job, He had to guard the gold.

The Pirates found the gold, And now was theirs to keep. But there was just one rule, He was not allowed to sleep.

He drank coffee by the gallons, And did jumping jacks at night. He kept the robbers away from gold, Underneath the pale moon light.

But one night he fell asleep, When he awoke there was something wrong.

Pirate Shuteye looked around to find, That most of the gold was gone.

He looked at his pet parrot, Which was no longer bare. He wore medallions around his neck, And diamond underwear.

"Where did you get the money?" Pirate Shuteye asked his pet. "Oh, I don't remember!" said the parrot, "I must have won a bet."

But the pirate grew suspicious, And played a trick so grand. He pretended he was sleeping, As he caught the robber in hand.

He opened his hand to find, Green feathers and a beak. "I'm sorry" said the parrot, "For a moment I was weak!"

But Pirate Shuteye made him fly away, And bought a pig instead. The pig had to watch for robbers, From the footboard of his bed.

The pig and Pirate Shuteye, Found a friendship they could keep. And decided to share the job, Because even pirates need their sleep!
