The Kaltich invaders are cruelly prolonging their Earthmen serfs' lives and denying them the secret of instantaneous space travel, so desperately needed by a barbaric, overpopulated Earth. While the Kaltichs strip Earth of its riches, the Secret Terran Armed Resistance movement, STAR, opposes them - but it's only their agent, Martin Preston, who can possibly steal the aliens' secrets. If he fails, billions of people will starve - with no place to go to except to their graves.
