The book is easily broken down into smaller areas - physiology, prenatal care, intrapartum care, complicated pregnancies, coexisting disease, and legal and ethical issues. This breakdown is very helpful, as readers can easily find a chapter with the desired information... The images are excellent, including ones carried over from the previous editions... An increased emphasis on evidence-based medicine is apparent. One excellent example is in the multiple gestation chapter, which deals head-on with controversial topics such as cerclage, progesterone, and cervical length screening and even recommends potential strategies. As many new residents will turn to this book as their primary learning source, it is important to teach the incorporation of study results into obstetrical practice. This is beautifully done here.

This edition continues the book's wonderful tradition as a primary learning tool in obstetrics. It is exhaustive yet topical and provides trainees with excellent examples of incorporating evidence-based medicine. A wonderful resource.
