Preface to the Fifth Edition SINCE the first edition of this book was pablished the woman who was known to the world as the founder of Christian Science has, in her own experience, proven the fallacy of the deceitfal system she created. To-day she lies mouldering in the dust of a guarded ;tomb like others in the silent cemetery about her dead. JS he who denied the fact of death, and taught that sickness tand disease do not exist, fell a victim to the ills of which I mortal flesh is heir. .B ut while her death and fast closed tomb are the seals Tsj)f God sunchanging truth that, by one man sin entered Xinto the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men; while her death verifies the Word of God that, 4t is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment; and while her naked soul in bondage awaits the solemn hour of the Great Assize when raised from the dead, body and soul together, she shall answer to the eternal judge for those whom, by her words, she has bliuded and led to everlasti Dgruin; nevertheless, Christian Science still wins, and holds its followers: does so in spite of its founders death and heaven sealed failure because, like Satan of old, it quotes and misquotes Holy Scripture.
