Sinopsis

Aristotle On His Predecessors: Being The First Book Of His Metaphysics is a book written by A. E. Taylor that focuses on Aristotle's examination of the philosophical ideas of his predecessors. The book is a translation and commentary on the first book of Aristotle's Metaphysics, which is often referred to as the ""Alpha"" book. In this book, Aristotle discusses the ideas of earlier philosophers such as Thales, Anaximander, and Pythagoras, and evaluates their theories on the nature of reality, causation, and the principles of being. Taylor's commentary provides insights into Aristotle's thought process and his contribution to the development of metaphysics as a discipline. The book is suitable for students of philosophy, as well as anyone interested in the history of Western thought and the evolution of philosophical ideas. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Reseña del editor

The present little work makes no ambitious pretence to originality of any kind. I ts object is simply to supply students and teachers of philosophy, especially on the American continent, with a faithful rendering of Aristotle scritical sketch of the history of Greek speculative thought down to his own time. Having experienced the need of such a work in connection with my own lectures atM cG ill University, I have thought that others of my colleagues may also be glad that the want should be, in however imperfect a manner, remedied. This cannot, I think, be done by the reissue of any translation, however meritorious in itself, dating from a period in which our knowledge both of the text of Aristotle and of the early history of Greek thought was more imperfect than is at present the case. A ccordingly, I submit to the judgment of my colleagues the accompanying new version, originally made for the purposes of my own lectures, trusting that they also may find it of some service. The translation has been based upon W.
