George A. Feldhamer is the chair of environmental studies and an emeritus professor of zoology at Southern Illinois University. He is the founding author of Mammalogy: Adaptation, Diversity, Ecology and the editor or author of numerous books, including Wild Mammals of North America and Deer: The Animal Answer Guide.

William J. McShea is a research scientist in the Conservation and Research Center at the Smithsonian Institution.
