Reseña del editor

This book provides welcome relief to those who must know about statistics for school or work or personal life. Is it a required course? Do you need to understand the basics to keep up with the latest quality initiative at work? What about those medical studies on the nightly news; how reliable and accurate are the reports? Or are you just hoping to win the lottery? Statistics: Short and Simple makes friendly and accessible a subject that many find threatening or intimidating. Most people face the prospect of taking a basic statistics course with trepidation. They struggle through memorizing formulas and "cook book" approaches to problems. Afterward they forget most of it, and walk away with only the warm feeling of having survived. Later in life when the subject comes up, they don't remember (or were never taught) enough about the concepts to respond intelligently or make good personal or business decisions. Students can use this book to prep for classes, understanding the concepts before facing the calculations. Others can use it to review what you should have learned instead of going back to a text book and notes that really didn't make it clear in the first place.

Biografía del autor

James Jeray directs an organization which uses mathematics to model business processes. Ensuring that practical solutions are delivered to customers means that technical issues must be translated into everyday language. Communications is key. These talents were crucial when he was asked to teach evening classes in statistics to under graduate business majors. These students were not thrilled at the prospect of this required course. Soon there were compliments from both students and administrators on his ability to find everyday examples to clarify and de-mystify the concepts before teaching the mechanics of calculation. This experience and the encouragement of colleagues inspired the writing of Statistics: Short and Simple. Mr. Jeray holds a BS in Engineering, an MS inAdministrative Science and an MBA.
