What you must remember about Jonathan Barlow Gee is that he was never completely comfortable with anything. He was never completely comfortable with his surroundings, and was often found staring off into space, contemplating the unknown depths of his psyche. He was never completely comfortable with himself, and while his friends all matured themselves through social interaction, Jon remained quiet, aloof, and contemplative. He was outspoken, and often misunderstood, but he appeared largely directionless throughout most of his formative youth. He was never comfortable being punished or rewarded by teachers, and drifted through school, the archetype of the wanderer, studying religion and philosophy, the arts and the media, world politics and the ancient occult. You can see all of this reflected in his writing, but there is something more, something difficult to describe or define. It is at once a heavy gravitas that infuses his verse, and a blinding luminescence of faith in something he has found, within himself, in his wanderings.
