Did you know that a drug's effects depend not only on its properties but also on the biological and psychological characteristics of its user? This theme is highlighted throughout DRUG USE AND ABUSE, 8th Edition. The book weaves historical, social, psychological, cultural, biological, and medical perspectives, taking an interdisciplinary approach in its coverage of current topics regarding drug use, problems associated with use, and their prevention and treatment. You'll learn about classes of drugs as well as the latest data on drug use patterns and social trends, such as the recent increase in heroin addiction, the altered social and legislative environment surrounding marijuana, and the use of technology in the treatment of the substance use disorders.
