Le prône doit se faire immédiatement après l'évangile. C'est une règle dont il convient de ne se départir que pour des motifs sérieux.
Il faut faire le prône dans la chaire, s'il y en a une. C'est d'abord le meilleur endroit pour être bien compris.
De plus, la parole du pasteur y garde plus facilement son prestige et son caractère sacré.
Si c'est le célébrant qui fait le prône, il quitte l'autel, se rend à la banquette pour y déposer la chasuble et le manipule, prend sa barrette et se rend en chaire; précédé du bedeau ou d'un enfant de choeur. Si, pour une juste cause, il juge bon de rester à l'autel, il garde la chasuble et même le manipule.
Quand celui qui fait le prône ne célèbre pas la messe, il se revêt d'un surplis et se rend en chaire pendant que l'on récite ou que l'on chante l'évangile.
