Excerpt from A Social Survey for Rural Communities: A Practical Scheme for the Investigation of the Structure, Problems, and Possibilities of Rural, Village and Other Communities From the Point of View of the Church and Its Work
A true questionaire is the guide not only to its own use, but to the community program of service to which it leads. Again, it may be said, try it and see. The questionaire has been pre pared with the larger, practical result especially in view. The purpose of a social survey is not to produce statistics, but to produce better communities.
While the survey is in progress, and after, it is urgently recommended that extensive and painstaking use be made of a bibliography of printed helps for country pastors. By the union of the field and the library studies, aided by constant prayer and earnest personal service, the investigator will find a place in the very heart of the rural life movement which shall realize to him that the community structure in which he builds is the world, and of which the completed temple is heaven.
