I hope to demonstrate that this the thrombosis - is the important part of what we are accustomed to call inflammation of the veins, and that it is certainly possible in theory, and probably to a certain de gree feasible in practice, to obviate its occurrence. Until we understand the true nature of this or any disease, we can but combat its results; but, if my views of phlebitis are correct, we ought at least to attempt prophylaxis.
