Sinopsis

Master a practical, proven approach to grammar that connects rule to real language use.

This nonfiction primer, The Principles of Grammar: An Introduction to the Study of the Laws of Language, presents a complete course designed to develop clear thinking and accurate expression. It frames grammar as both a science and an art, with a focus on how language works in real speech and writing. The book outlines a three‑part structure—elementary, intermediate, and advanced grammar—aimed at beginners, eighth‑grade students, and those beginning high school work. A special teacher’s section explains how to guide learners toward independent reasoning, not just memorized rules.

  • Learn that clear speaking and writing start with clear thinking and careful analysis.

  • Explore parts of speech, sentence structure, and meaningful connections through practical exercises.

  • Practice by using questions and problems that encourage students to reason and generalize.

  • See how grammar relates to other languages and the history of language use.

Ideal for readers and educators seeking a thorough, classroom‑friendly foundation in grammar and language analysis.

Excerpt from The Principles of Grammar: An Introduction to the Study of the Laws of Language, by the Inductive Method

Tms book is the outcome of an attempt to find a statement of grammar principles which should avoid the placing of the teacher of foreign languages at cross purposes with the teacher of English, to the end that one instructor may not labo riously unteach what the other has as laboriously taught. The authors, originally agreeing only upon the necessity of agree ment, have proceeded upon the conviction that in the essential sameness of thought processes among different peoples the broader principles of language structure must be general. They believe themselves to have found their problem not im possible of solution and the attempt not altogether profitless.
