Excerpt from Set Comparison Using Hashing Techniques

Here we will restrict consideration to data-objects which are unordered sets, and to operations which test one set for being a subset of the other. This inclusion test is an extremely useful test which occurs in a number of disguises throughout programming. In a later section we will also extend the techniques to ordered sets, that is, sets in which the order of the elements is significant.
