If I had approved of any thing preposed by them, I should have continued silent: if not, I had then attempted to speak my sentiments. But since those very points, on which these speakers have oftentimes been heard already, are, at this time, to be considered though I have risen first, I pre sume I may expect your pardon; for if they on former occasions had advised the necessary mea sures, you would not have found it needful to con sult at present.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of orations and harangues from ancient Greece, specifically focusing on influential speeches that impacted historical events. Many of the orations included here were delivered by famous orators like Demosthenes, and contain themes that reflect the political, social, and cultural landscape of ancient Greece. The orations provide insights into the values, beliefs, and motivations of the people of that era, making them valuable historical documents that illuminate the development of democracy and rhetoric. The speeches are significant because they demonstrate the power of words to shape public opinion, influence policy, and even change the course of history. The author presents these orations not only as historical artifacts but also as examples of effective communication and persuasive techniques, exploring the enduring legacy of these speeches and their relevance to contemporary times.
