Timeless verse in translation and original voices
This jump-size collection gathers William Blathwayt’s translations and original poems, centered on nature, memory, and human longing. It moves from reflections on the gingko tree and ancient histories to intimate laments, playful pieces, and thoughtful meditations. The edition pairs classic ideas with Blathwayt’s own verse, offering a bridge between diverse voices and eras.
Readers will find a blend of natural imagery, mythic echoes, and quiet observations that invite reflection without heavy-handed theory. The book presents a curated sequence of poems with a biographical notes section that highlights the contributors behind the translations and the originals.
Ideal for readers who enjoy lyrical verse, cross-cultural echoes, and compact poems that invite a moment of pause.

Excerpt from The Gingko-Tree: And Other Verses, Translated and Original
IN issuing the following selection of my verses, I have been encouraged to include translations from the French and German, by the very friendly reception accorded to my previous little work, The Giant's Plaything, which appeared towards the end of the year 1920.
It is necessary for me, however, to emphasize the caution given in that work, namely, that these verses are intended to be free - not literal - translations. In all cases it is the idea contained in a poem that I have sought to transcribe, while following also, as far as possible, the metrical form of the original.
