I. When the main object is to throw light upon the classics and give an interest to classical studies, it is neither necessary nor desirable, in an ordinary course of school or college training, to go beyond the countries, some portion of which is on the shore either of the Mediterranean itself, or of one of those seas which are in truth parts of it, though called by distinct names, - the Adriatic, the Aegean, the Propontis, and the Euxine.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book by the late Professor Pillans is a valuable tool for expanding your knowledge of Ancient Geography. It takes readers on a tour of the classical world, starting from Spain and continuing east to Greece and beyond, describing the physical appearance of the land, the major waterways, and historically significant cities and towns. The book is written from the perspective of someone standing on the landscape looking towards the sea and then moving inland along the river basins. The author's focus is on enabling the reader to picture where events in classical literature took place, not only by using standard names but also by giving an ancient name alongside a modern one. This book is essential for anyone studying or teaching the Classics or for anyone with an interest in the ancient world.
