Excerpt from Introduction to Analytical Mechanics
While more prominence has been given to the analytical side of the subject, the more intuitive geometrical ideas are generally made to precede the ana'ysis. In doing this the idea of the vector is freely used; but it has seemed best to avoid the special methods and notations of vector analysis. This has been done with reluctance; the time has certainly come for introducing these methods in the very elements of mechanics. But this must be left to another opportunity.
