Excerpt from State Normal Magazine, Vol. 7: October, 1902 June, 1903
Let us turn to the platform entertainer. Did you ever hear a public speaker enliven his lecture with numerous jokes and witty remarks, and watch him at the end of every point, hitch up his head, look through his glasses at his audience, then shut his mouth pertly with his under lip as if to say, There, that's funny, laugh at that!
The most Shallow class of egotists, however, are society bores, or conversational egotists, When one fool lolls his tongue out at another, And shakes his empty noddle at his brother.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines colonial North Carolina as a subject of significant interest, exploring the connections between how women of the era were both socially empowered and disenfranchised depending on their status, the prevailing social norms, and the impact of major historical events such as the American Revolutionary War. The author places the lives of prominent women like Esther Wake, Betsy Dowdy, and Flora MacDonald against the backdrop of the Deep South's transition from a British colony to one of the United States. By examining the struggles and triumphs of these individuals, the book sheds light on the complex dynamics of gender, power, and political upheaval that shaped life in the American colonial South.
