The method of conducting the lesson and recitation is made sufficiently clear in the suggestions taken from the syllabus for non-english speaking pupils in the New York City schools where this subject has received the greatest amount of careful attention, and where surpris ing results have been attained.
While the foreign pupil, attending the evening school with one aim in view all the time, is eager to master the language of the country of his adoption in the shortes1 possible time, it is wisdom on the part of the teacher to pause now and then and review the work of the preceding lessons until the matter is thoroughly assimilated and th( pupil feels perfectly at home in the use of the vocabulary he has gained. Thoroughness in the work will lend to. Ward the satisfaction of both the teacher and the pupil.
The lessons on the more advanced subjects, on business terms, signs, civil government, history and advanced and more difficult conversation and language work will be found in the remaining books of the series.
