The Dot makes the note after which it is placed half as long again; thus, a dotted w note will be worth three half notes. A dotted half not/3, three quarters. A dotted nu note, three eighth notes. See example.
If two dots are placed after a note, the second dot has half the value of the first dot.

The most in use is called Common time, marked with a e and each measure cont then, the value of a whole note, which is counted by four beats, to know that by each a quarter, or the value of a quarter note, must be performed. This time is also ma by 2, and called Four-quarter time, which is the same.
