Lamont found that if a magnet was alternately heat ed and cooled for fifteen or sixteen times between two given limits of temperature it reached a permanent state, in which it had a definite magnetic moment corresponding to a given temperature, to Which it always returned when brought to that temperature, provided its temperature has never passed outside the limits referred to above. The magnetic moments were small er, the higher the temperature.
