Excerpt from Three Years in the Sixth Corps: A Concise Narrative of Events in the Army of the Potomac, From 1861 to the Close of the Rebellion, April 1865
The following pages are offered to my old comrades of the Sixth Corps, with the hope that they may pleasantly recall the many varied experiences of that unparalleled body of men. If much has been omitted which should have been written, or if anything has been said which should have been left out, I rely upon the generosity of brave men to treat with leniency the failings they may detect.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book, a regimental history, details the experiences of the 77th New York State Volunteers during their service in the American Civil War. Through the lens of the regiment's personal diaries, letters, and military records, the author tells the larger story of the war's Eastern Theater, beginning with the 77th's formation and departure from Saratoga Springs, New York, through its role in the bloody campaigns of the Peninsula, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg, and finally to its participation in General Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley campaign that helped bring about the Confederacy's surrender. Through the regiment's experiences, the author also provides insights into the many hardships endured by Civil War soldiers, from illness, exposure to the elements, and combat, to the often harsh treatment of Union soldiers by Confederate civilians. The book provides a personal, ground-level view of the conflict, shedding light on the reality of soldiering in the mid-19th century and the courage and sacrifice of ordinary men.
