Excerpt from Notes and Queries for Somerset and Dorset, Vol. 12
N the few prefatory words which are given at the issue of the biennial volumes of Notes and Queries for Somerset and Dorset, there is usually little to express beyond the grateful thanks of the Editors for the support they have received in the past on behalf of this Magazine, which has now covered a period of four and twenty years, and their desire that a succession of new subscribers and contributors may arise to fill the places of those who are no longer here.
Among the friends of this periodical who have departed since the eleventh volume was completed special mention must be made of Mr. Hugh Norris, the first Somerset Editor, of whom a memoir appeared at page 145 in the Number for December, 1910, and of Dr. John Wordsworth, Bishop of Salisbury, whose praise is in all the churches for his piety and learning.
The Editors are glad to have this opportunity of wishing a Happy New Year to their supporters, and a long life to the Magazine with which they have the honour to be connected.
