Excerpt from Select Discussions of Race Problems: A Collection of Papers of Especial Use in Study of Negro American Problems; With the Proceedings of the Twentieth Annual Conference for Study of Negro Problems, Held at Atlanta University, May 24, 1915
Twenty years ago there was begun at Atlanta University a series of studies of the Negro race problems in the United States. The application of careful thought to race questions was not at that time widely practiced; and even today, there are not many serious students of the subject. Here and there, however, a few of the ablest authorities have given consideration to some of the fundamental phases of Negro problems and some substantial material has accumulated. In the leading of earnest attention into this field of study the belief is possibly justified that the years of work carried on here has had a share. Some of the products of these recent researches on race questions are here presented in the hope that they may prove helpful in working out practical and satisfactory methods of meeting the many difficult race rela tions.
