Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is an original account of the political and religious divisions of 17th-century Europe. It details the events leading up to and surrounding the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War, and the complex web of diplomacy and negotiations that characterized the era. The author focuses on the central role played in these events by the Spanish Match, a proposed marriage alliance between England's Prince Charles and the Spanish Infanta, which was repeatedly delayed by religious conflicts. The author shows that this alliance was not merely a dynastic union but a key element in a complex web of diplomatic and strategic objectives. Through detailed analysis of letters, speeches, and other archival sources, this book offers a fascinating glimpse into the political machinations of a tumultuous era and sheds new light on the origins of one of Europe's most devastating wars.
