IN works on the theory of alternating currents it is shown that the electro-motive-force of an alternator uctuates very nearly according to the law of Sines, and the formulae for finding the average and maximum induced electro-motive-forces are there deduced. We shall examine in greater detail the form of the curve in the case of a disc alternator, on the supposition that the magnetic ux passes directly from one pole-piece to the other without any leakage, and that the curve may exhibit Sudden varia tions, which in practice are attened out by the self-induction.
