Excerpt from Diffraction by a Spheroid
Our first result, given in Section 2, is based upon the geometrical theory of diffractionei]. This is a theory which describes the field scattered by any object directly in terms of geometrical properties of the object and certain coefficients determined from a few canonical problems. 'we have previously applied this theory to diffraction by convex cylindersez] and convex solidstfi]. Whenever possible we compared the results of that theory with the asymptotic form (for wavelength small compared to object dimensions) of the solution of the corresponding boundary value problem.

This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
