This edition blends statutory text with practical references, including a shipmaster’s directory and listings for ship chandlers, sailmakers, and provision stores. It presents the rules governing wrecks, salvage, pilotage on the Sandy Hook route, and the Hell Gate pilots, helping readers understand historical maritime governance.

The 2d section of this act confers the power to lay out regular streets, or wharves, of the width of seventy feet in front of those parts of the city which adjoin to the East and North Rivers; and, as the buildings of the city shall be ex tended, to lengthen and extend the wharves and streets.
The 3d section entitles the owners of water lots to the ground which shall be covered by the corporation in the con struction of streets and wharves, if they shall pay the expense of their filling up: and the 4th section empowers the corpo ration to levy for the said expenses by distress and sale of the goods and chattels of such proprietors, or the Occupants?

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is an abstract of the laws of New York State, and the Corporation ordinances, relating to vessels, wharves, piers, slips, basins, wrecks, and salvage. It contains the substance of the statutes, and the very language of the law, particularly the penal clauses. Masters and owners of vessels frequenting the port of New York will find this book invaluable, as it will allow them to understand the laws and their rights when they approach and lay at our wharves. This knowledge is particularly important since the passage of the Municipal Police Bill, whose officers are scattered over our wharves and ready to enforce the ordinances, and punish those who violate them. The author's attention to matters in the Maritime Law, such as hypothecation of vessels by mortgage, bottomry, and respondentia bonds, recovery of damages for injuries done to vessels by collision, and marine protests in cases of partial or total loss, make this book a useful resource for those dealing with maritime matters.
