Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the history and theological underpinnings of church governance, particularly focusing on the role of lay elders in the early Christian church. The author explores the development of church discipline from the time of Christ's apostles, through the practices of the early church fathers, and finally into the medieval period. The work examines the evolution of penitence, a key aspect of early Christian life, and the author's own perspective on its relationship to both individual piety and the broader structure of the church. The book traces the development of church laws and structures, considering their relationship to both the divine will and the realities of human society. The author presents a nuanced argument that challenges commonly held beliefs about the nature of spiritual authority and church organization, inviting readers to consider the historical and theological context within which these concepts have evolved over time. This book offers a compelling perspective on the development of the Christian church and its enduring quest to balance the divine and the human.
