State. It was something so different that it leads to confusion to try to put it in the same class. This is another way of illustrating the lesson that before dis cussing the nature oi the State we must decide which kind of State it is. If Switzerland, England and America are types of the State, then China before the Revolution was an anti-state. The fundamental prin ciples of the one so contradict those of the other that the western democrat may indeed say that until Japan and China established governments built on western model's Asia produced no State of his kind.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book by Jesse Macy, an authority on political science, is an analysis of the principles that underlie democracy, with a particular focus on its evolution in the New World. The author contends that traditional views of human nature as innately subservient are incompatible with democratic ideals, which instead emphasize individual potential. Macy draws historical parallels between the development of democracy in ancient Greece and Rome, and its later iterations in England and America. He traces the influence of Christianity on democratic thought and explores the challenges posed to democracy by superstition, force, and the rise of mass society. The author argues that democracy, as a form of government rooted in the belief in human equality, requires a citizenry educated to think for themselves and participate actively in civic life. Macy's insights into the relationship between education and democracy remain particularly relevant today, as societies grapple with the tensions between individual liberty and collective authority.
