The prophet Ezekiel gives us this defcrip tion of them P Behold, this was the iniquity of thy {ifier So dom, pride, fulnefs of bread, and abundance of idlenefs was in her and in her daughters, neither did fhe {trengthen the hand of the poor and needy, but was haughty, and committed abomi. Nation before me; which a Jofephus might have in his eye when he gave us this account of them. The Sodomites, fays he, waxing proud, by reafon of their riches and wealth, grew contumelious towards men, and 'impious towards God; f0 that they were wholly unmindful of the favours they receivedfrom him: they hated (hangers, and burnt in mu tual luff with one another. And certainly the debauchery of the place could admit of no new acceiiion, bur was arrived at its utmoft height, when they could think of abufing {hangers after fo abominable a manner; to which the prophet, with all mo 'dei'ty, feems to allude, when (to reprove the profligate of his age) he tells them r tha%'hey declare their fin as Sodom, and hide it not.
