The idea of this book occurred to me nearly five years ago, as a result of a conversation with Mr. Charles B. Going, of the Engineering Magazine (now Industrial Management) in which he expressed a wish that some one would tell how to apply efficiency principles, as a sort of a supplement to Har rington Emerson's statement of these principles in his book.
