IN accordance with the plan announced in the preface of the General Editor (matthew, pp. V., the present volume includes the notes on the Gospel according to Luke already published in the 'illustrated Popular Commentary.' These have, however, been carefully revised, in order to adapt them to the Version of 1881. In the preparation of the larger volume, much use was naturally made of the comments on the first two chapters of the Gospel, contributed by Dr. Schad' to the work on Luke in the American edition of Lange's Commentary.
